Education and Literacy

Poor educational background and the lack of an understanding for available educational opportunities are great challenges faced by the refugee families in the United States. CAREUSTZ organizes educational support through dedicated community partners to advance education and literacy initiatives in refugee populations. In addition, CAREUSTZ will conduct workshops and training sessions in language services, public health promotion, health care, social and legal services, civics, parenting, housing, and finances to foster refugee participation in the economic development of their families and communities. CAREUSTZ targets areas identified with low rates of educational attainment (primary and secondary schools levels) in Tanzania to initiate partnerships within the affected communities to develop educational programs. These initiatives will advocate for improvements in basic educational infrastructure and facilities, utilize both national and international coaches to train and develop the school instructors, develop sustainable school meals programs, and educate the parents on the roles they need to play in the education of their children.
