Due to cultural and health system differences, refugees struggle to successfully navigate the U.S. system of care and may become vulnerable in different aspects of health services including inability to afford the costly out-of-pocket expenditures associated with childbirth complications and chronic conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. With the funds raised for health care programs, CAREUSTZ manages medical cases, bears out-of-pocket expenses, and offers opportunities for health screenings, awareness sessions, language services, treatment, and referrals to refugees and immigrants who have resettled in the United States for their independent and healthy future. In Tanzania, CAREUSTZ develops and participates in public health promotion projects and outreach programs in health care events, camps, and clinics. CAREUSTZ will develop a pool of health professionals from Tanzania and United States, which will provide health services to target communities and develop on-job skills among local providers, including medical assistants, nurses, and technicians. CAREUSTZ will solicit medical equipment for donations to the health facilities in underserved areas of the country. CAREUSTZ will develop health centers as well as work in partnerships with the existing facilities to promote and develop mother and child health initiatives.
